Introduction – Acquaintance
Aim: Getting to know each other, setting goals, expressing fears and expectations
Objectives:
- Improving communication between team members
- Creating a positive classroom atmosphere
- Creating a positive attitude
- Developing relationships based on trust and cooperation
- Developing friendly and cooperative atmosphere
- Strengthening of self-esteem, self-assurance
- Interacting with others
- Developing listening and observation skills
- Identifying the source of potential troubles and solving them
- Encouraging members to support their arguments while sharing their opinions
- Encouraging members of the group to express themselves
- Promoting respect for the rights and feelings of others
Activities also include:
- setting goals and discussing objectives relating to the course content, expressing fears
- getting to know the group and promote communication and cooperation
- identifying the expectations of the team, their fears and expectations
- creating a poster of the group
- dividinng the class into smaller groups
- discuss how they feel, what they liked or not from the activities they took part in during
Getting-To-Know-You Icebreaker Activities
- Welcoming, introductions (Ss are asked to change the position of their chairs into a circle, facing the centre; 5-10 min)
- The Daisy Game:
- Ss are asked to stand up and take a daisy, in a colour they like
- They complete their names and the other pieces of information needed e.g. what they like etc.
- One by one they present themselves based on what they have written on their daisy
- They pin the daisies onto a board
- Fears and expectations
- Ss choose a sheet of paper, in a colour they prefer
- They write down their expectations about the course
- The instructors are the first to share
- Then, they write down any potential fears they may have, anticipated problems
- They all pin their sheets of paper onto a board
- Revise whatever has been discussed in this unit
- Ss are asked to complete the Unit Assessment questionnaire
- If there is any time left, ss will watch a video about Kalamata and Mystras
